Story of Hope: Linda

Linda's Story of Hope

I was out of control … even at 13.

That was when I first began using meth. Before that, it was acid, PCP — everything. Drugs were everywhere. Meth came along and once I tried that, it was my drug of choice for 17 years.

When I came to STEP2, the first thing my counselor asked was how long it had been since I had seen my kids. I told her it had been four months. My counselor called Social Services right away and set up an appointment with my children that very same day. By the end of the day, I got so see my kids for the first time in four months.

Quote Image: I knew I was in the right place and that someone finally cared about me.

I began to open up and get cleaned up.

At first, I didn’t think I deserved this kind of positive attention and care. But with time, my counselor and STPE2 showed me that I did deserve it. They didn’t care that I was a meth user and had lost everything. All they cared about was how they could help me, how I could get my kids back, and then how to facilitate putting me back together as a whole person.

I was at STEP2 for 18 months and the time I spent there made me a much stronger person.

If STEP2 had not been there for me and my children, I don’t know what I would have done or what would have happened to me or my children.

STEP2 saved my life and the future is bright for me and my children because of it.
