FAQs

Clearing up confusion

Do you only help moms?
While a large majority (roughly 75%) of women in the STEP2 program are mothers, you do not have to be a mom to join our program. If you are 18 or older and are battling a substance use disorder, we are here for you and would love to help you build a brighter future for yourself. Reach out today.

I’m currently pregnant and struggling with addiction. Can you help?
Absolutely. In fact, 12% of the women who come to STEP2 are pregnant. We are here to get you to a place where you’re sober, safe, and in-control of your future and the future of your new baby. Your infant can live with you on-campus and can later transition with you to our transitional housing/cottages. You’ll also have access to everything from parenting education to breastfeeding support. We know how important it is to keep a new mother united with her baby—and we always work to do so.

What if I don’t need/want to live on-campus?
When you first reach out to STEP2, we’ll learn all about you, your needs, your history, and what kind of support system you have in place. If you're not assessed as needing residential treatment and have stable housing, you will be able to remain living at home while engaging in treatment. You’ll be a part of our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or Outpatient Program (OP), where you’ll receive comprehensive treatment services on-campus—while ultimately living off-campus. That said, if you do not have a safe and sober living environment, you'll be offered the opportunity to live on our beautiful campus.

Can my children stay with me?
Each case is unique—but we believe in keeping mothers and their children together whenever possible, and we work closely with CPS and the court system to do so. In most cases, infants (children 6 months or younger) may stay with their mother in her dorm at our Redfield Residential Facility. Due to the intensive nature of residential treatment, older children are not able to live in the residential facility—however, they are able to come stay with Mom at the facility on the weekends. When you’re ready to move into transitional housing, you will be reunited with your older children, who are welcome and encouraged to move into your fully-furnished cottage with you.

How long is the STEP2 program?
While our program is highly personalized for each woman, on average, it lasts up to one year. Women typically spend an average of 2-3 months living at our residential facility (where you receive 30 hours of therapeutic services each week)—then, if desired, another 9-15 months living in our transitional-housing cottages (where you'll receive continued on-campus therapy and support).

What are outpatient services?
“Outpatient services” is just a fancy way of referring to the services and therapy you receive when you’re not living with us in our residential facility.

Will you help me find a job?
Yes! Employment education and assistance is such an important part of our program—and your future success. Once you complete residential treatment and transition into Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Services, you'll take part in our Employment Development Program—where you will build a résumé, learn interview skills, and gain access to interview clothes. When you complete this program, we’ll also provide transportation to and from job interviews. Our Employment Development Program helps 100% of women find gainful employment and, as part of that program, we provide monthly bus passes to help you get to and from work.

Why choose STEP2?
Since 1986, STEP2 has been the community’s premier rehabilitation campus—helping thousands of women get and stay sober. Our program is proven and established in a way no others in this area are—and our staff members are incredibly experienced and treat each of our patients with warmth, empathy, and deeply personalized care.

Plus, we are the only program of its kind that takes a comprehensive approach to helping women get and stay sober; here, you’ll find help with everything from establishing rental history and getting transportation to-and-from work—to domestic violence prevention and highly effective coping skills you can take with you as you continue your life outside of campus.

I’m ready to get help—but I’m scared to reach out. Does STEP2 protect my information?
Our program is 100% confidential—and we are federally required to maintain the confidentiality of every woman at STEP2. We are a completely safe space to help you get and stay sober. Reach out today, and we will get you started on a supportive, safe journey to a brighter future.

Not just recovery—lasting change that leads to a better life.
